From Two to Six: The Ultimate Podcast Mobile Kit Upgrade
Ready to take your podcast on the road with professional quality? Our latest Autofocus episode unveils the significant upgrades to our mobile recording kits, expanding capabilities from just two people to a full six-person setup without sacrificing audio quality or simplicity.
The heart of this upgrade centers on our innovative approach to wireless microphones. We've successfully combined our four-person Comica system with additional Movo mics, allowing crystal-clear recording of six separate voices without the interference problems that typically plague multi-mic setups.
This breakthrough means you can now record panel discussions, group interviews, and multi-host segments almost anywhere with professional results.
Complementing the audio upgrades are our new 60-inch adjustable Yukos tripods that transform from desktop to standing height in seconds. These affordable yet versatile stands give you endless framing possibilities whether you're shooting seated discussions or standing presentations.
Brooke and Dan share practical insights from real-world use, including a six-person barbershop interview where we developed an efficient camera setup and editing workflow that anyone can replicate.
What hasn't changed is our commitment to accessibility. These kits remain incredibly user-friendly—no video expertise required. If you can operate a smartphone, you can create professional podcast content. The entire system is designed to be as close to plug-and-play as possible while delivering results that will impress your audience.
Check out our expanded options for one, two, four, or six-person kits at podcastvideos.com and take your podcast production to the next level, wherever your stories take you.
Welcome back everybody to another episode of Autofocus. I am Dan Kraft.
Speaker 2:I am Brooke Galligan.
Speaker 1:And we are here today with an update to the mobile kit.
Speaker 2:Yes, yes, so we well, you know, in a previous episode we talked about the mobile kits, how you can use them, how they're really easy to use and you're going to have. We had one kit that was a two-person desktop kit, but then we've actually upgraded it, so now you can have up to six people and then it doesn't have to be a desktop anymore, because these babies, these little tripods so yeah, if you want to see, I'm going to play with it. Yeah, yeah, here we go. There's three so you can take them apart and then you can push down and then they actually go all the way up. So you can have them up. They're basically almost as tall as me, that's not that tall.
Speaker 2:It's not, it's like 61 inches, but they go almost 60 inches. I think it is about 60 inches, so you just kind of pull it down.
Speaker 1:They're very mobile.
Speaker 2:They are, but why we love them for the mobile kit is that they basically just you know you can have them. They fit in the back. You can have three of them because we have three cameras, which are the Google Pixels that we have right here. So we have three cameras. They fit on the tripods with our little camera set, yeah, and so that hasn't changed like that. So that was part of the two-person kit and this is part of the four, the four-person kit and we've got three cameras, three tripods three cameras, three tripods, three cell phone holders.
Speaker 2:okay, and then we what? But what changed with the other kits is that we added in, uh, two sets of wireless mics, so we have the four-person kit, which is really nice.
Speaker 1:So these are really Same setup we put in our four-person kit.
Speaker 2:So this is the mics for the four people. So basically it has four. You have four wireless mics that all connect to one transmitter and so basically you can have. Basically you just plug this into one of the cameras, you know, into one of the cameras or the phones, and then you make sure you select the wired mic and this transmitter will capture all four of these. So you can have four people. They can be wherever you want and it'll capture the audio really, really well. And so that's the four person.
Speaker 2:But then we had someone come in and they were like we're actually interviewing six people and they're like, they're like we want each person to have their own individual mic. I was like all right, well, let's see. So now, so we have the mics from the two person kit, which is basically you have our little, a little movo mics, which are right here, because now we have comic mics. We have movo mics, which are like super small and um, and I was like you know, let's test it to see if you can run. Um, you know, the wireless mics from the four person and the wireless mics for the two person without and run it without the interference, and it turns out you can.
Speaker 2:It actually sounds really, really great, and so now you can have up to six people, um and so to handle.
Speaker 2:So we actually ended up doing like an interview with six people.
Speaker 2:It was in a barbershop, it was really fun and in the way that we set up the angles, just because, when it comes to editing, we wanted to make sure, because now you have one camera where it's going to have the audio of four mics, and then you have another camera that's going to have the audio of just two mics, and then you have a third camera that has no audio coming into it, it's just ambient audio. And so what we did then is we basically set up one angle is all four people, because it was just an interview. So we set up the four person, which is, like you know, their close-up. We put in four, four people in in in the frame and their audio is all together, and so when, when, when they're talking, you can just cut to like the close-up of of them, and then the other angle, the other close-up, had the two and so like, instead of three and three, because that would have been difficult to edit that would have kind of cross-fed your yeah, one person would have been weird.
Speaker 2:So basically we ended up just doing the two person which was on the little movo mics, and then we had a four person angle which is on the comica mics and um, and then and it sounded great, and it sounded, and it looked great, and then it was um, really easy to edit because and you just used the two cameras for that one you didn set up a third.
Speaker 2:We did set up a third, because when all of them are laughing, but you don't have to, you can just basically lay that angle over it, like once you sync it to the audio, you can just lay that camera angle over the audio and so you use your wide shot when everybody's laughing and having fun and interacting.
Speaker 1:The camera that doesn't have an audio input is your wide shot, because you're already getting your closer shots with the other.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and so it made it really easy to edit and made it really um and it sounded good, it looked good. Um, you know it was, it was, it was, it was uh, you know it was a really fun shoot and so, yeah, so you can actually have um, you know, we you can have up to six mics now without any kind of interference at all. Technically, you probably have two of these and have eight mics, but no one's asked us for eight people yet, so we are not getting there.
Speaker 1:And hopefully they're under frequencies. We haven't had to try that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we haven't tried that yet. But these transmitters, there's a lot of stuff you can do to it.
Speaker 1:And when you're putting up one camera angle with four-person mic, set that audio. One camera. With two, you can have a desktop camera and one that is floor-based off here. These do help give you a lot more angle possibilities because of the versatility.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So they can be short and they can be tall.
Speaker 1:What are these brand-wise? These are a.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it was a Yukos. Yukos off of and you can get them off of Amazon. Okay, yeah, cool, they're like 30 bucks and they're super easy and they have a Great price for the versatility?
Speaker 2:Yeah it's great. So, and then on the edge, you see that there's like the little thing there that actually it comes with a selfie button, so like if you wanted to like put it on and like attach it to like a phone or something and you and you can use that to take pictures, okay. So, um, I, we don't, I took them off because we don't, we don't use it for that, but it's nice. No, they've got. Yeah, they're basically like selfie sticks. Okay, because you can actually put this out and then like hold it up. It's like a selfie stick, but one of the things they so it's great for influencers, content creators, all sorts of fun stuff, and it's really versatile.
Speaker 1:And it's for for our podcasting purposes. It's incredibly compact and the versatility gives you a lot of different ways to set up in a mobile.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's camera, stand it's camera. It's just our. It's our camera. Try tripod.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 2:Yep, there you go, it's easy, easy peasy.
Speaker 1:So yeah, now we have the option in mobile kits for what? One, two, four or six person arrangements, and of course that's on our Shopify store.
Speaker 2:Yep, everything on the Shopify store.
Speaker 1:Podcastvideoscom.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and the whole reason again we're making these kits because it's so easy to use and anybody can do it. So you don't need to have a really technical video video background, you don't need to understand aperture or shutter speed or anything like that, you literally just have to know how a cell phone camera works and be able to switch it into wired mic mode, like that's the hardest thing it's as close to plug and play as we get.
Speaker 2:Yeah yeah, you know, and I set up the shot. I set it up for our client. I set it up with these. I said I did. I use this exact setup and it looks really great.
Speaker 1:Good deal.
Speaker 2:It's even 4K.
Speaker 1:Awesome Guys. Well, that's a wrap for today. We'll be back, I'm sure, with more topics and eight person kit, 30 person kit who knows who?
Speaker 2:knows.
Speaker 1:But until then I'm Dan Craft.
Speaker 2:I'm Rick Galligan.
Speaker 1:Until next time, this is Autofocus from PodcastVideoscom. Thanks for being here.
